Custom Corner Cabinet - Barbacoa Restaurant, Boise, Idaho
Since our inception in 2001, Impact Imports has offered our clients the option of creating and building custom furniture pieces. Although most of our clients are residential customers, a few are commercial customers, primarily restaurants. One of our biggest commercial customers over the years has been Barbacoa restaurant located in Boise, Idaho. This latest project was created to provide more work surface for the 5 (sometimes more) hostesses on staff, as well as a storage compartment for their personal items.
If you have ever been to Barbacoa, simple furnishings are not the norm! Their style is very eclectic and fun! Everywhere you look in the restaurant you'll find something interesting to look at. The materials and the texture vary throughout the entire space. Essentially, if the owners could dream it, then the piece was designed, created and installed. We had a great time finding or creating many of the pieces you see in Boise's very popular Barbacoa Restaurant. The corner cabinet we installed in December 2018 was no exception! You'll find this piece tucked into the corner behind the hostess station to the right after you enter the restaurant.
We began with custom made cabinets made locally in Boise. The left cabinet was set at counter height (36") and has 2 doors and, inside, 2 shelves with plenty of space for handbags, etc. The right side is set at bar height and overlaps the left cabinet. There are 3 drawers in the right side for smaller personal items.
The work surfaces are made from 2" thick reclaimed natural edge old growth teak slabs filled with a crystal clear cracked resin. The cracked resin gives the slabs high visual impact and depth. The teak slabs were ripped along the back edge so the surfaces would fit flush to the wall, while the natural edges are visible along the front edges.
Because the walls are painted a dark color and because there is no lighting in this corner, we added a 1/4" space under the teak slabs and installed LED rope lighting. Now, when the LED lighting is on, the corner is illuminated and the top surfaces really stand out!
