$30,000 We found this Joglo on Madura Island (off the north east coast of Java Island) in 2008. Although it is incomplete (no ceiling and no roof) it is one of the largest and oldest structures we have found that would be usable in a more modern-day construction project. It measures approx 26' long x 18' wide x 25' tall and is made entirely from old growth teak wood. The man we bought it from thinks is was originally constructed in the mid-1800's by Dutch who used to 'summer' on the island to get away from the heat of Jakarta.

This is an excellent example of how to incorporate a Joglo into your own residential or commercial LEED project. This is a beautiful restaurant in Bali, Indonesia, that incorporated 2 very large Joglo structures into the design and used them as the main structural components. One of the Joglo structures is shown here in the restaurant area, while the second one is in the bar area (not shown).

 | JOGLO House from Central Java, Indonesia
A "Joglo" is a traditional, central Java Island home. The Joglo in the Impact Imports warehouse (pictured here) is approximately 100 years old and is made entirely from teak. This original Joglo is truly one-of-a-kind. It was removed from an area of Java Island, Indonesia, called Sidoarjo that was 'flooded' with mud, displacing many villagers. The mudflow in Sidoarjo, which started in May of 2006 and has swallowed five villages and left thousands homeless, is still flowing today. Shortly after the mud started flowing, I met a man who had purchased this Joglo house from a displaced villager. I watched this man meticulously hand sand, repair, fix / match carvings and re-oil every piece of teak. He then re-framed the roof area and re assembled the house. This took one and a half years. I finally bought this piece in January 2008 and have enjoyed looking at it every day. I know you would enjoy it as well as it is simply stunning. This is a RECLAIMED TEAK structure, so it would qualify for LEED Certification!

It is unusual to find a Joglo with all four corner posts carved on all four sides. Although this is a smaller Joglo than most we have come across, it has more detailed carvings than any we have seen for sale in Indonesia. An original Joglo house is very difficult to find...... |

In most cases, the ceiling of a Joglo house has a tremendous amount of detailed carving and this Joglo is no exception. This picture shows one of the two vaults in the ceiling. Although this is a smaller Joglo than most we have come across, it has more detailed carvings. |

This traditional house from Java, Indonesia, is known as a 'Gladak' house. It is made entirely from teak. You can get a glimpse of the inside of the GLADAK house, as well as the size and condition of the front porch. These houses have sizable teak beams that span from pier block to pier block, then the house is built up from there. Tons of character.
